Natur genéissen in a nutshell

Agricultural land does not only serve production, but also is a habitat for many animal and plant species. The type of farming has a direct impact on the preservation of biodiversity. Nature conservation is therefore closely linked to agriculture. Natur genéissen is a project which was initiated in 2014 by SICONA to preserve and protect valuable habitats in collaboration with farmers and to help create an additional market for farmers. Since 2021 the three Nature Parks in Luxembourg, Naturpark Öewersauer, Naturpark Our and Natur- & Geopark Mëllerdall joined Natur genéissen. Healthy, regional and seasonal food plays an important role for children's development. Local farms can provide much of the food that is needed in public canteens, such as beef, pork and chicken meat, dairy products, eggs, fruits and vegetables.

Our values

A regional value chain not only supports producers from the region, but also promotes environmental and climate protection and reduces the ecological footprint. Natur genéissen supports and promotes the processing of regional and seasonal products in the kitchens of childcare and education services (SEA: Service d’éducation et d’accueil) and offers an additional market to farmers who agree to work according to Natur genéissen criteria and make part of their land available for landscape structure elements and areas for nature conservation. This way, the producers’ work receives an additional value regarding nature conservation. Natur genéissen promotes short transport distances, establishes personal contact between producers and consumers and is a connecting factor.
